Even with Wool it's still Cold
Long, worn stairways stretched up the mountain sides, stone brickwork weathered from seasons upon seasons of wear and tear, but still standing. Steps far older than the sheep trotted up its surface- an immortal monument that remains as the single proof of the passage of time by defying it. The air was sharp and cool, needles of ice seeming to poke along the edges of her arms as Tawni stuffed her hands into her winter coat. Serpents of steam and mist trailed out of her mouth like smoke from a dragon’s mouth- rushing high up into the air only to disappear into the clouds above. Just at the edge of the hill top, a festival seemed to run about the shrine. Vendors selling warm food to the masses, animals of all ages rushing to join the fray, and the lovely scent of incense seemed to waft through the cool winter air.
It was rare for Tawni to be out of her shop. Perhaps her business just kept her busy or she merely preferred it that way. Nonetheless, the holidays could never possibly be ignored! She cracked the spaces between her fingers before turning her head back and forth through the crowded street. Bustles of people wandering about, herbivores, carnivores, all of them seemed to congregate together into a soup of scents. Without a lick of sense or hesitation, Tawni wandered over to the nearest stall, beaming with an odd sense of pride to herself. “Oh my, isn’t it just lovely, dear? Back in Central City, we’re usually pretty busy, but this is quite the bustle!” She tented her fingers together softly, tilting her head off to the side.
“Ah- Um, yes! It is fairly cold tonight though. Be careful to stay warm. Would you like some warmed sake?”
“Eh? Ah, of course! Thank you~” With that, she was ushered away back into the crowd, squeezing through the much larger animals and dancing between the cracks in the bricks. Quietly, Tawni took a sip from her drink, letting the warmth spread into her body. Seconds seemed to slow down to still, and melting metronome playing in her head as she moved. She tilted her head back off to the side, staring off to the side as she blew steam off the top of her drink. Next time, I’m definitely getting Arlo to come with me… Silently, she settled upon the edge of a half-wall, kicking her feet slightly back and forth as she stared off into space lost in thought- or maybe perhaps just looking for someone new to talk to.
Most of her friends had chosen to stay behind within their dorms this cold winter night. Those that normally loved to travel out and about to the city this night were unfortunately caught with the winter cold and had told her to go on without them, asking her to take pictures for them. It was truly a shame, but unfortunately there were some things, such as sickness that could never be accounted for. Regardless though, Mina took their words to heart and wouldn't let it get in the way of her fun. There were plenty of animals out here: from the academy, students of the other schools around here and even some civilians that she didn't mind meeting.
Still, it was an unique experience walking around the festival without any friends. Typically, she wasn't the type of animal to plan things out and followed with her friends' plans. As they mentioned, they were the fun ones in their group of friends. With all of them out of the picture right now, Mina had to find some way to make her fun. While her extroverted nature did certainly make things a lot easier, she would still find herself shuffling around the stalls trying to find some things to preoccupy herself with. Walking to one stall to purchase a dango, and then walking to another to silently observe a group of friends giggle as they played one of the games there this process would continue for quite awhile. While certainly Mina could say that she had fun watching people, it simply wasn't the same as having her own group. She had attempted to approach a few animals to socialize with them, but ultimately they seemed more interested with their own group than with her, prompting her to give everyone their space for now. Loneliness was beginning to set in, but Mina was determined to keep it from ruining her life. Surely, she could find someone to speak to before she had to go back,
After a bit of wandering around the stalls, Mina had noticed that her dango was getting a bit cold, unpleasant since she didn't particularly enjoy the texture of chewy mochi. Once she became aware of this revelation, she would immediately began to search for a place to sit down and enjoy herself. It was a particularly difficult task for her to do due to her size and the amount of animals that were around. All of the actual seats appeared to be occupied, and thus she had to search for unconventional seating which still proved to be a difficult task. Finally, she had found one in the form of a half-wall right next to a sheep who appeared to be enjoying her drink. She didn't appear to be with anyone, so maybe she wouldn't mind if she were to sit down here.
"Excuse me, is anyone sitting here?" She would ask, waiting for an answer before she would take a seat.

Even with Wool it's still cold
Crowds passed by like fading souls upon the night stars. Laughter and murmurs playing between each species and creature- as though they were all simply a carefully organized box of crayons crammed next to those of a similar shade. Mixed scents became concentrated into their own spots as though those two sides never were supposed to mix in the first place. Tawni tilted her head to the side, running her fingers into her coarse wool before finally pulling out her phone to check the time. I should have waited for Arlo...ahh, but it’s so boring when it’s quieter… She mumbled to herself, sipping her warm sake as though to try and make up for this quiet night that has forsaken her instead. How terrible for the seconds to make themselves known now? Silently, she fiddled with her phone, trying to beckon Arlo over to the shrine.
"Excuse me, is anyone sitting here?"
Tawni’s face beamed all at once, patting the space next to her as though to beckon the vampire bat closer. “Sit! Sit! My husband is coming later, so I’m all alone right now.” She leaned backwards, taking another sip of her drink as she stared amiable into space again as though merely loss in her own head-space for just a moment before popping back into reality. The white wooled ewe sighed blowing warm air into her numb fingers. “I hope you’re having a lovely time~ Are you with family? Perhaps just friends?” Her voice seemed to trail on and on, like a never ending song playing an enchanting melody long lost. Tawni paused for a moment, cracking the space between her fingers before turning right back to Vampire Bat. “Oh! I almost forgot, my name is Tawni. It’s very nice to meet you...miss?”
Without even a second of hesitation, she offered her hand to shake to the highschool student, her bright beaming smile met with her buttermilk voice. Bell chimes played in the distance, animals placing their prayers for the New Years like million of stars left to float up into the sky. The shifting of the trees, the chatter of the wind, all of it seemed to be masked with the stiff festive feeling every corner seemed to coat itself with. Small animals skittered across the ground, children chasing each other around the shrine grounds, only to be scolded by their parents nearby. Tawni couldn’t help, but feel just a little out of her elements- where the safety of her small little fabric shop seemed so out of reach,
Happily, Mina would take her seat right next to the sheep, glad to have some place to sit around to enjoy her dango at. "Thank you so much," she said. While she wasn't sure if the sheep would like some privacy when her husband came, she might as well make the most of what she had placed front of her right now. Unfortunately, all that walking around and the chilly air did cool it down to the point it was really chewy which was a disappointment, although the flavor was still delicious which was the only thing that kept her eating the snack. Oh well, maybe a little conversation would be enough to bring back her mood up.
"My family is quite a bit far away, although I do miss them." Mina responded to the sheep's questions. There was a hint of longing within her voice, yearning for the two of them. This was the first year where she had stayed at the academy rather than returning home, primarily because of the fact that today would mark their thirtieth anniversary and she didn't wish to bother them like she did the previous years. "All of my friends are back at home or under the weather unfortunately, so it's just been me. Although, I don't mind particularly much. A festival is fun even without friends." While it certainly could be better, Mina would be lying to herself if she said that she wasn't having fun. A festival was a festival after all. The infectious mood simply was something that couldn't be avoided.
The sheep introduced herself as Tawni, holding a hand. With her free hand, she would reach out to shake it with a firm and confident grasp. "Mina, it's a pleasure to meet you Ms. Tawni." Right after her introduction, the sounds of the festival would catch her attention, bringing her eyes to the scene around her. It was truly one of those experiences that you would never forget and made her somewhat nostalgiac to the new years festivals that she would visit as a child. "It's such a lovely night," she commented. "I'd wish it happen every day rather than once a year." There were other festivals for her to enjoy of course, but right now as she was in the moment this was all she ever wanted. It was a time where they could put aside their differences and focus with what they wanted to do with their lives. It was one of the few times where she truly felt like she belonged here.

Even with Wool it's still cold
Tawni nodded along to Mina’s answers, as though to grab onto the different phrases and weave them together into a singular cloth that would define who “Mina” is. She stretched out the base of her fingers, intertwining them and squeezing them like silly putty. "Oh, I do agree. It is so pretty this time of year...Central city has this millions of lights up in the square this year and it is quite a sight~ If you're ever in the area you just have to go see it!" The ewe clapped her hands together, letting her thoughts fade away from her mind. Slowly, she took another sip of her sake, letting her breath drift off into the cold winter air. Her phone buzzed a bit, lighting up as a message ran across the screen.
She paused moment, tilting her head off to the side before slipping out of her pocket. "Just one second my dear." With one smooth motion of her thumb, she slid the notification open into her Beastbook Messenger. "I'm sorry. I'll be running late...the plants are all going to freeze over, so I need to go fix it. Go ahead and wrap up at the shrine without me. >>" Tawni's face slacked a bit, a stare of utter disbelief turning into exasperation before finally settling into her normal "it is, what it is"-like expression. "It's quite alright dear! I met a new friend at the shrine. I'll enjoy the festival just fine, love~ <3 <3 <3"[ Without a second thought, she slipped her phone back into her pocket and stretched her arms out. "My husband will be arriving late, so he told me to go ahead and get things going. Would you mind accompanying me, dear?"
"See, he is always so self-conscious about these sorts of things, but interspecies relationships are becoming more normalized you know!"With a singular motion, she hopped off the ledge, spinning back around to face the vampire bat again. Tawni tented her fingers, letting the warmth from her fingertips transfer back and forth into the other. "I guess it's alright though....that's what I like about him too. It's just his way of being considerate...Oh, but enough about me dear, tell me more about yourself! We have quite a walk before we get to the main attractions~"
